Here is a pretty interesting route choice from the JWOC sprint event ( at least I think it is :)
When I looked at it during and after the race I was really sure that one route was a lot better but now I'm not so sure. Which route would you choose, Green or Blue?
I went green but the winner went left on the blue route. Which one do you think is better?

Green looks like the one to me. I comes down to that bit through the undergrowth on the green vs back tracking a bit on blue
I saw both when I first looked at the map and I thought that I would have gone blue...
On an uphill like that I would always take the path just because you don't know what the terrain is like. I suppose it is a 50/50 choice because you had not yet seen the terrain (as it was the first leg into the forest). For me it is safer and not that much slower [if the green route turns out to be faster].
Also simpler route choice and one where you don't have to watch your feet leaves more time to read the rest of the course on an early leg...
I was so sure that green was best, i think the running might have been slower though, the bridge we crossed was quite small, but eran (ISR) had a clear path up the hill all the way in the forest. his split was 2:13 and the fastest split was 2:10 by andreu blanes who was the red route
